O St. John Neumann, who during your life was raised to the rank of bishop for the Church in the United States, and after death raised to the highest honors of the altar, we pray today that your witness of charity may flow throughout the church here in this land. You who were always “close to the sick, loved to be with the poor, a friend of sinners, and glory of all emigrants” instill that same missionary and evangelistic zeal into our bishops as they seek to navigate their flocks through the turbulent seas of our times. Grant through your prayers that they may ever seek Christ in the Eucharist as the source of their strength and rest under the protection of Mary, the Immaculate Conception and their constant perpetual help. May they teach sound doctrine and seek to bring the faith to those in most need, as you did. O holy bishop, O glorious bishop, radiant with the light of the risen Lord, pray that our bishops, fortified by the power of Holy Spirit, may never tire of doing the will of the Father, so that when Christ the Chief Shepherd appears, they may receive the eternal crown of glory and hear Jesus say to them, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your Master’s joy”. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
